P0404 (Al99.90)
The highest-purity primary aluminum grade we commercialize (99.90%), the ideal clean charge stock for producing very-low-iron A356.2.
P0404 is a highest-purity primary aluminum grade (≥99.90% Al), one step above P0610 (99.80%) and P1020 (99.70%). We commercialize it — like P1020 and P0610 — for customers requiring the cleanest possible charge: minimal traces of iron, silicon, and copper. It is the ideal feedstock for producing very-low-iron A356.2 (Fe ≤0.12%) and other high-purity alloys, as well as for demanding electrical applications thanks to its high conductivity (~62% IACS). We do not manufacture it; we distribute it as a highest-purity base material.

Compared to Similar Alloys
P0610 vs P0404 (Al99.90)
Both are 1xxx-series primary aluminum that we commercialize (not manufacture) as clean remelt charge stock, not as engineering alloys: neither is heat-treatable, and both are soft and highly conductive. The decisive difference is purity grade: P0404 is ≥99.90% Al with lower traces (Fe ≤0.04%, Si ≤0.04%, Cu ≤0.01%), one step above P0610 (≥99.80% Al, Fe ≤0.10%, Si ≤0.06%, Cu ≤0.005%).
| Dimension | P0610 | P0404 (Al99.90) |
|---|---|---|
| Purity grade (Al) | ≥99.80% — high purity, one step below P0404 | ≥99.90% — the highest-purity grade in our primary line |
| Iron and silicon (critical traces) | Fe ≤0.10%, Si ≤0.06% | Fe ≤0.04%, Si ≤0.04% — notably lower traces |
| Copper and residuals | Cu ≤0.005%, others (total) ≤0.10% | Cu ≤0.01%; additional control of Mn, Zn, Ti, V, Ga ≤0.01–0.03% each |
| Heat treatment and strength | Not heat-treatable; soft (UTS 60–70 MPa, ~15 HB, elongation 45–55%) | Not heat-treatable; remelt charge (no published mechanical values; properties as annealed pure metal) |
| Electrical conductivity | ~63% IACS | ~62% IACS |
| Typical application | Base for ultra-low-iron A356.2, aerospace alloys and safety-critical parts; high-purity conductors | Highest-purity base charge for very-low-iron A356.2 (Fe ≤0.12%) and other high-purity alloys; maximum-conductivity conductors |
| Designation / standard | P0610 (AA); High Grade (LME); equivalent ≥99.80% Al | P0404 (AA/ANSI H35.1); Al99.90 (EN 576); comparable to EN AW-1090 / ISO 209 Al99.90 |
P0610: Choose P0610 when you need high purity (≥99.80%) above P1020 at a more accessible tier than P0404, sufficient for premium low-iron A356.2 and high-purity conductors.
P0404 (Al99.90): Choose P0404 (Al99.90) when you need the cleanest possible charge — Fe and Si ≤0.04% — to produce very-low-iron A356.2 or maximum-purity alloys where P0610 does not meet the trace limits.

Special Notes
P0404 (AA/ANSI H35.1 designation) corresponds to the Al99.90 remelt ingot per EN 576, and its composition is comparable to EN AW-1090 (EN 573-3) and ISO 209 Al99.90. It is the highest-purity grade we commercialize in our primary aluminum line (P0404 99.90% > P0610 99.80% > P1020 99.70%). We distribute it — we do not manufacture it — as the cleanest possible charge for producing very-low-iron A356.2 and other high-purity alloys.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is P0404 (Al99.90) and what is it used for?
P0404 is a highest-purity primary aluminum grade (≥99.90% Al), the cleanest in our primary aluminum line. It is used mainly as charge stock to produce very-low-iron A356.2 and other high-purity alloys, as well as in demanding electrical applications thanks to its high conductivity (~62% IACS). At Transformación Puebla we distribute it; we do not manufacture it.
What is the chemical composition of P0404 and how low are its impurities?
P0404 contains a minimum of 99.90% aluminum (balance), with very low impurities: iron (Fe) ≤0.04%, silicon (Si) ≤0.04%, and copper (Cu) ≤0.01%. Other elements such as manganese, titanium, and vanadium are held at ≤0.01–0.02%. Total others do not exceed 0.10%, making it ideal for diluting traces in demanding alloys.
How does P0404 differ from P0610 and P1020?
The difference is purity level: P0404 sits one step higher at ≥99.90% aluminum, versus P0610 (99.80%) and P1020 (99.70%). Higher purity means lower traces of iron, silicon, and copper. That is why P0404 is the cleanest charge of the three and the preferred choice when the lowest possible iron content is required.
Why is P0404 the best charge for producing low-iron A356.2?
High-quality A356.2 demands very low iron content (Fe ≤0.12%), and iron cannot be removed once the metal is molten — it can only be diluted by starting from a clean charge. Since P0404 contributes only ≤0.04% Fe, it leaves ample margin to meet the A356.2 limit when adding silicon and magnesium, without dragging excess iron into the bath.
Is P0404 heat-treatable? What mechanical strength does it offer?
No. Like all 1xxx-series aluminum, P0404 is essentially pure aluminum with no hardening alloying elements, so it is not heat-treatable and its mechanical strength is low. It is not sold for structural properties but as base feedstock: a highest-purity charge for producing other alloys and for electrical conductors where conductivity, not strength, matters.
Why does P0404 have such high electrical conductivity?
P0404 reaches ~62% IACS because its extreme purity (≥99.90% Al) minimizes traces of solid-solution elements — such as iron, silicon, and vanadium — that scatter electrons and reduce conductivity. That makes it suitable for high-purity conductors and applications demanding maximum electrical conductivity.
Does Transformación Puebla manufacture P0404 or only distribute it?
We distribute it; we do not manufacture it. P0404 is Al99.90 remelt ingot (per EN 576, comparable to EN AW-1090 and ISO 209 Al99.90) that we commercialize as a highest-purity base material, just like P1020 and P0610. We offer it to customers needing the cleanest possible charge for their own high-purity alloys.
